Teaching Life Skills to Children and Teens with ADHD is a enjoyable way for families to work together to develop essential life skills in their children. Classes begin on September 16 at 5:00 PM EST.
Most of us hope that after our child or teen's attention has improved and symptoms of hyperactivity are better then all will be well. The reality is that improving attention helps...but ... it doesn't teach our children essential life skills and it doesn't teach them how to get and keep friends. That's what this webinar for parents and kids is all about!
In this 15-session webinar, Dr. Monastra will teach a series of "Life Skills" to you and your child or teen, using his book, Teaching Life Skills to Children and Teens with ADHD: A Guide for Parents and Counselors as a guide. In each class, Dr. Monastra will teach specific skills, give you an opportunity to practice the skill in class, answer questions that you might have, and guide you in ways to apply the lessons at home. Each participant will receive a copy of Dr. Monastra's book that includes worksheets and other materials needed to get the most out of this class. During the week between classes, parents can email questions to Dr. Monastra for additional guidance in ways to teach these skills.
You and your child will learn the basics of healthy nutrition, sleep and exercise habits, how to reduce anger and worry, and "ways to get what you want in life, without getting into trouble". Other skills that will be taught include: how to overcome teasing and how to start and maintain conversations that are interesting to others.
In addition, because kids with ADHD have spent so much time being corrected for the gazillion things they do wrong, we will also focus on the sources of confidence and ways to build the self-esteem of your child.
Finally, we'll help kids in the class begin to network with each other and collaborate on projects intended to teach the value of kindness, appreciation, and caring for others in our homes and communities.
As we developed this class, we have learned that the experience can be a lot more "fun" if families team up and do this together at home. Although we're fine if only you and your child participate in the class from your home, we think you'll find it more enjoyable if you ask a friend(s) or child(ren) to join you in your home for this class. Doesn't matter how many families join you, the cost for you is the same. If you are unable to attend the classes "live", recorded versions of each class will be available for you to view.
